Tura, April 12: A BJP worker was trashed by supporters of other political parties after he tried to canvas outside a polling station and trouble escalated further during the evening when a mob of several hundred people surrounded the Dalu police station demanding his arrest.

The incident took place at Chaipani polling station where the BJP leader who is said to be an RSS worker of the area, identified as one Anoy Paul, along with his supporters tried to influence voters who came to cast their vote.

He was found asking voters to cast their ballot in favour of his party and this angered many who went to complain to the workers of other parties and the general public.

This led to an argument with the BJP worker and he was assaulted by some angry voters in the process.

After his assault, he rushed to the Dalu police station to register an FIR against those who assaulted him which led to more anger from the public who soon gheraoed the station demanding his arrest for illegal canvassing and creating tension during the polling process.

Sensing the situation rising further, the deputy commissioner Ram Singh along with district SP Dr MG Raghavendra Kumar have rushed to Dalu, 51 kms from Tura, with additional security forces to contain the situation from escalating further.
