Aizawl, Aug 18: Bodies of two teenagers, who were reportedly missing and suspected to have been abducted by the Myanmar Army from the Hairual village along the India-Myanmar border, were found in a jungle near the Mizoram border, officials said on Thursday.

According to reports, the deceased siblings, daughter and son of the People’s Defence Force (PDF) of Myanmar Commander Lalzidinga, have been identified as Lalnunpuii (17) and her younger brother Lalruatmawia (15).

The children were missing since Sunday and their bodies were found on Tuesday evening. The relatives of the victims are taking shelter at Zokhawthar village in Champhai District of eastern Mizoram.

According to sources, the PDF of Myanmar, the armed wing formed by the National Unity Government of Myanmar (NUG), comprising youth and pro-democracy activists, are engaged in a fierce battle with the Myanmar Army (also called the Tatmadaw) since Sunday at Hairual village, which is very close to eastern Mizoram Border.

The PDF has been fighting for restoration of democracy in Myanmar.

The Myanmar Army reportedly burnt down more than 16 houses, destroyed other properties in Hairual village and killed innocent civilians.

Around 31,000 Myanmar nationals, including 11,798 children and 10,047 women, have taken shelter in different districts of Mizoram since the military junta led by army chief General Min Aung Hlaing seized power in the neighbouring country in February last year.

There are 14 lawmakers of Myanmar who are also among those who fled the trouble-torn country and took refuge in Mizoram, which shares a 510 km unfenced border with the neighbouring country.
