Jowai, Aug 28: As part of the endeavour to encourage writing in Jaiñtia Language a book titled “Ka Kot Sikai Thoh wei wau Pûn Emkaam ya ki Dak A-B Jaiñtia” compiled by Riquoma Rq. Laloo was released on Saturday at a function at Panaliar, Jowai where the Executive Member of JHADC, Phasmon Dkhar was the Chief Guest.
It may be mentioned that the Jaiñtia Alphabets were approved by the JHADC on March 25, 2021 after years of consultation made by the Alphabet Committee constituted by the Council.
As the Chief Guest, Phasmon Dkhar narrated the story of the Jaiñtia Alphabet Committee to publish and recognise the alphabets and appealed to the Jaiñtia community to start using these alphabets that were approved by the JHADC.
One of the speakers during the gathering, the former president of the JSU and a member of the Committee, Rikut Parieñ said that a tribe without any written alphabets is an endangered tribe as the language is the only means to preserve the language and indedity if a tribe.
The Dolloi of Elaka Jowai, Puramon Kynjing lauded the efforta of Laloo to come forward with a book on the Jaiñtia Alphabets.
