Shillong, May 06: In a tragic incident that has shaken the region, Roning Nongkynrih, a 35-year-old man was fatally shot by BSF jawans at Mawshun village, Pynursla near Pomshutia, East Khasi Hills District.
According to reports, the incident occurred at around 11 pm on Friday while Nongkynrih was returning from Laitlyngkot. The man was suspected to be illegally transporting cows. The BSF jawans reportedly opened fire on his truck without any prior warning, hitting him in the head and neck area.
After the shooting, the BSF quickly fled the scene.
The tragic incident has sparked outrage among the locals, who are demanding an investigation into the shooting and justice for Nongkynrih. Locals along with some pressure groups went to the BSF camp at Pomshutia. However, as of now, the situation is under control.
On Saturday, his body was brought to Shillong Civil Hospital to conduct a post-mortem examination.
The deceased was the only breadwinner for the family. He is the father of two children – one is 3 year old and the other is 4 months old.
