SHILLONG, JUNE 24: Over 60 cattle have been seized from along the international border in East and West Jaintia Hills district, BSF officials said on Thursday.
Most of the cattle were being brought clandestinely to the border area through forest by miscreants when BSF intercepted them. One truck loaded with cattle was also confiscated by BSF near Umkiang area, although driver and one of his accomplices managed to abscond from the spot, they said.
Miscreants are trying to get maximum benefit of heavy rain and inclement conditions underestimating supervision and access of force but BSF keep on throwing cold water on their plans by being extra alert, BSF officials said.
During the first half of the year BSF Meghalaya confiscated more than 2000 cattle from the International Border.
Owing to drastic climatic conditions BSF has enhanced alertness on the International Border to maintain National security as well as to prevent all kinds of trans-border crimes and illegal activities, the officials added.
