Guwahati, April 18: Hundreds of candidates, who appeared for the post of Assam police constables during 2019-20, staged a protest in Guwahati on Monday.
Police detained the candidates who were heading towards Assam DGP office to gheoroed the office in demand for their results, which have not been given till date.
A total of 1,80,622 candidates had applied for 9,171 posts of various types of constables such as armed, unarmed, home guards, former militants, radio communications and fire and emergency services.
A candidate said, “We are waiting for our result for past many years but our result has not been out yet. The government is playing with our future. We have given the written test for various posts in Assam police. We demand that before April 26 our result should be out.”
The Assam Police have deferred written examination for over 9,000 constable posts, which was first advertised nearly four years ago, as the number of candidates called for the test had fallen below the ratio of 1:5 against each post.
It added that a new merit list would be declared shortly. The first advertisement for the posts appeared on April 25, 2018, with an addendum on December 19, 2019, and more advertisements reappearing on various later dates.
“Now, they are conduction the examination on April 26 without giving our wrtten exam result. We have appeared the exam in 2020. We demand that our result should be out as soon as possible,” said another candidate.
