The dead body was identified as Lendrithbirth Ch Marak, a 39-year-old resident of Nengkong village near Siju, approximately 20 kilometres away from the district headquarters of South Garo Hills.
Chandrachud said, "The incident is simply unacceptable. Using women as an instrument in an area of communal strife. Grossest of constitutional abuse. We are deeply disturbed by the videos which have emerged."
The Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum (ITLF) has alleged that the two women were also gang-raped in a nearby field during the incident, which occurred on May 4 in Kangpokpi district, approximately 35 km from Imphal.
