Centre assures full support to contain law & order situation in Shillong

Shillong, Aug 16: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that he has spoken to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and has briefed him of the prevailing law and order situation in Shillong.

“He (Amit Shah) has assured all support and cooperation to contain law and order situation,” the Chief Minister said, while informing that state government had sought for five companies of paramilitary forces for tackling the law and order situation.

“We have spoken to the Home Secretary. I (also) had a detailed discussion with the Home Minister Amit Shah yesterday. We spoke on two occasions one in the afternoon once in the evening and on both occasions, he has assured us of full cooperation,” he added.

He also informed that accordingly three companies of CRPF and two companies of BSF have been requisitioned for the situation, of which two CRPF and two BSF companies have already arrived in the state.

On the concerns expressed over the decision to ban the mobile internet which has affected students, who are having online classes and examinations, Sangma said, “We realize the inconvenience that is being caused to the students.”

“We realized that this will affect them in next few days but the overall law and order situation is of priority. Though they will be having some concerns and some difficulties which is something unavoidable at this time but keeping the law and order situation in mind, the priority of the government will always be to maintain law and order situation,” he added.
