Centre extends CUET UG 2023 application deadline to March 30 for Meghalaya

Shillong, March 17: The Centre has extended the deadline for online applications for the Common University Entrance Exam (CUET) UG 2023 to March 30 for the state of Meghalaya.

This decision came after Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma requested an exemption for CUET in the state on March 7. He cited the delay of State Board examinations due to the recent Assembly Elections, which has caused students to face unprecedented challenges in attempting the CUET for state-level undergraduate institutions.

Announcing the CUET extension for the State on Friday, Commissioner and Secretary of Education, B.D.R Tiwari, however clarified that the enrollment deadline has been extended to March 30 from the initial date of March 12.

Cabinet Minister and Government Spokesperson Paul Lyngdoh also commented on the development, stating that the government will follow up on the request for exemption of CUET for students in the state, as they are acting on the request of the majority.

It should be noted that in 2022, after Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma made a similar request, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced the exemption of CUET for undergraduate courses in colleges affiliated with the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in Meghalaya.
