Tura, Oct 13: Cherian Momin, a social activist from Tura in West Garo Hills, has written to NEHU Vice Chancellor Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla, condemning the ragging of a MBA student from the Department of Agri Business Management in the university’s Tura campus.

The student, hailing from Nagaland, was ragged within the confines of Arabella Boys’ Hostel in Chasingre on October 8, between 1:30 am to 2 am.

Momin appealed to the Vice Chancellor to promptly intervene and ensure immediate justice for the victim. He also said that the concerned authorities must take resolute legal action, including filing an FIR.

He further demanded the transfer of the victim to another central university offering the same course.

At the same time, the social activists demanded stringent disciplinary measures to be instituted against the perpetrators, aligning with the university’s Anti-ragging policies and relevant laws, notably UGC’s Regulations on curbing the menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2002.

He also asked the Vice Chancellor to take immediate action against or remove the Campus Director, Proctor, and Warden of the implicated hostel.

He also urged all NGOs in Garo Hills to unite in seeking justice for the victim, and ensuring accountability for the implicated authorities.
