Imphal, Nov 30: The women’s wing of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has issued a strong warning to launch a series of agitations if the army fails to locate and rescue Laishram Kamalbabu Singh, a 56-year-old man missing since November 25 from Kangpokpi district.
COCOMI women’s wing convenor, Leirik Leima, expressed concerns about potential bias in the army’s response, stating that the people, particularly the mothers of Manipur, would not tolerate any perceived partiality.
“If the authorities fail to ensure the safe return of Laishram Kamalbabu Singh, the people of Manipur will no longer allow the army to remain in Leimakhong,” Leirik Leima told reporters. She emphasized that the community had long trusted the army stationed in Leimakhong, but that trust is now at risk.
Kamalbabu Singh, originally from Gossaipur in Assam’s Cachar district and currently residing in Loitang Khunou village, Imphal West, went missing on November 25. He was en route to the Leimakhong military station, where he worked as a supervisor for a contractor with Military Engineering Services (MES).
A defence spokesperson confirmed that joint search operations by the army and Manipur Police have continued for the sixth consecutive day, as tensions rise in Imphal West, bordering the hilly Kangpokpi district.
