Community members, entrepreneurs of Garo Hills share stories of sustainable development practices

Tura, May 18: A day long interactive and innovative session on Regional Level Knowledge Sharing Event was held on Thursday at SMELC Building, Dakopgre, Tura in West Garo Hills. The event was organized by Meghalaya Basin Management Agency (MBMA) – District Project Management Units, Garo Hills Region in collaboration with FOCUS program, PRIME, CLLMP and MegLIFE project.

The purpose of the event was to create a platform where a community member can take the stage and share his experience in an interactive format such that others can benefit from the event. Through the interactive session the event planned to impart information and to encourage the aspiring communities, members and entrepreneurs in replicating the best sustainable development practices to address the common challenges faced by many farmers and entrepreneurs in the region.

The knowledge sharing event had participation from all the districts wherein aspiring community members, start-ups and entrepreneurs shared their stories on natural resource management, conservation of water and forest, women empowerment, innovation, good governance, entrepreneurship, cooperative movement, start-up activities, Producer Group activities, homestays, apiculture, weaving etc.

Abhishek Gowda M.J, Sub-Divisional Officer (CIVIL), Dadenggre, attending as Chief Guest of the event, applauded the organisers for arranging such an inspirational and knowledge based community to community interface where community members and participants of the event can learn from each other and also encourage each other from their field based stories. Inspired by the various community speakers during the event, he was enthralled to hear them talk with confidence and share their encouraging stories.

The event was outlined with plenary session and technical session where community champions shared their field-based stories through video documentaries and power point presentations. The technical session focused on thematic discussions on IVCS Operations, CMC & Markets, NRM Interventions and Producer Groups. The event also felicitated the Community Champions from various thematic areas. A captivating Exhibition was also set up with products from all 5 district of Garo Hills Region.

V. Valentine Hembrom, District Project Manager MBMA/MBDA West Garo Hills chaired the event who introduced all the stakeholders and community speakers, actively supported by the inspired team from the various project of MEGHA-LAMP, FOCUS, CLLMP, MegLIFE and the PRIME START-UP team from five district of Garo Hills.

The event was also attended by KM team from MBMA, Shillong, MBMA Project team from Garo Hills Region, and Principal NSTI, Dakopgre, Ajay Pal.
