Shillong, April 16: The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organaization (CoMSO) on Friday staged a surprised protest in front of the Meghalaya Secretariat in Shillong, demanding the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP).

The CoMSO along with the members of Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement staged a sit-in protest in front of the main gate of the State’s Secretariat at around 11 a.m. “No ILP No Rest” slogan was being shouted by the protesters.

Secretary of CoMSO, Roy Kupar Synrem informed that the surprise protest was a wake-up call to the Govt led by NPP Chief Conrad K Sangma, to not take lightly the demand of ILP.

Meanwhile, the vice-chairman of the Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organizations (CoMSO) and the president of HANM, Lam Kharbani said, “It is only the beginning since we have seen that the government is indifferent to the demand for ILP,” Kharbani said.

Kharbani also stated that as some state leaders are leaving for Delhi, the agitation would serve as a reminder to the leaders to take up the ILP issue with the Centre.

Besides this, he stated that they would intensify agitations if the State Government fails to acknowledge their demands.

“We are gathered here in hundreds, next time it will be thousands,” he said.
