Tura, Oct 25: In a direct attack to the opposition party, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has accused the opposition of playing cheap politics by deliberately targeting the ethnicity of their candidate in Rajabala but at the same time still seeking the votes of the very same community that the NPP candidates come from.
Meghalaya Chief Minister and National President of NPP Conrad Sangma on Oct 25 arrived in Rajabala constituency for the second leg of campaign. He will camp at Bhatabari till Oct 27 and will go aggressively in both hill and plain belt area under Rajabala constituency.
Meanwhile, speaking to Hub News, CM Conrad further raised questions and said “The opposition parties are attacking our candidate Abdus Saleh because of his ethnic background. But they are shamelessly asking for the votes from the same Muslim community. Are they not betraying the community? Our Muslim brothers should teach them a lesson because they are trying to misuse the community.’’
It may be mentioned, On Oct 25, he addressed two election meeting at Chokchokia and Bhaitbari along with Deputy Speaker of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Timothy D Shira, Government Chief Whip Marcuise Marak, MLA Ferlin Sangma, CEM of GHADC Benedic Marak and Chairman of GHADc Rakesh A Sangma.

CM Conrad’s speech
Speaking at the rally, NPP chief Conrad Sangma appealed to the voters to elect NPP candidate Abdus Saleh in this coming election.Notably, Rajabala constituency has mixed voters, and Chief Minister Conrad Sangma is putting all his might to reach out to both areas to woo the voters.
Conrad said that Congress leadership is divided and there is leadership crisis in the party. He told the crowd that there is no future in Congress and hence people should not believe Congress claims and vote for NPP, the party that is ruling in Meghalaya. He said that NPP is getting maximum support in all the three constituencies, where by-election are being held.
“NPP will win with a comfortable majority in all the three constituencies”, he asserted.On the other hand, while speaking to the candidate Abdus Saleh said he does not differentiate between communities and ethnicity and assured to work for overall development of Rajabala area. He also said that if he fails to adhere to his promise, the Chief Minister and other MLAs will make him accountable.
