Shillong, June 3: Congress is all set to file a ‘charge-sheet’ against the Conrad K Sangma-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government for its alleged ‘misdeeds’.
“We are preparing and we will be filing a charge-sheet (against the MDA government),” Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) chief Vincent H Pala told reporters. He said that the charge-sheet will be made public once the 2023 Assembly elections are declared.
Stating that there are a series of failures to be highlighted in the charge-sheet, Pala said, “You have seen (the level of) corruption. If you travel from here to Nongstoin, there are a series of gates run by the state government and the district councils – all at the cost of the consumers, farmers and the public.”
“Because of corruption, instead of going to the government’s exchequer, it has gone to their personal pockets,” he alleged.
Pala added that only the Congress is pointing out the corruption of the government while everybody is silent because they are getting a share from it.
He also slammed the government for trying to implement the gambling act despite opposition from churches.
According to him, the government is also not able to pay the teachers, district council staff and even the health workers besides unemployment being very high.
“We have set up a research team to go deep (into these issues) and we will be giving it in our charge sheet,” he added.
Further, All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge Meghalaya Manish Chatrath said as the oldest political party in the country, the Congress will fight from all the 60 seats in 2023. “We will also ensure that we get a majority (and lead the government),” he added.
Asked on the reason for people to vote back the Congress to power, Chatrath said, “Have you seen the performance of the present government. As a resident of the state do you think, leave aside the media side of yours, do you think the government is working right? It is not one but there are 10 issues where one can come up with, so don’t you want a change. If you want a change you think of the Congress party only.”
Whether it will be tough for the party to win the upcoming elections, the AICC leader said, “There were people with no political background and they formed the government but we are the oldest party, we have our organization intact, we have our vote bank and I know at the end of the day the people of this beautiful state are looking for a change and they love Congress.”
Meanwhile, Pala maintained that the Congress is not interested to have any pre-poll alliance with anybody. He, however, admitted that politics is dynamic.
