Conrad assures all help after CEM and Secy holds meeting on GHADC financial crisis

Tura, May 1: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has assured all possible help from his government to ensure stability and progress of the GHADC which has been under a severe financial crisis for well over three years.

The chief minister had a meeting with the new CEM Benedic R Marak and Secretary Rikse Marak in his office chamber in Shillong on Monday.

The burning issue of pending salaries of the employees that have been due for well over thirty months was one of the main subjects discussed during the meeting.

“One of the most important issues of the meeting that was discussed was about the pending salaries of the council employees. The discussion was positive and various options were given to the government by the CEM and the Secretary. These proposals will be taken up by the new EC and passed to the government,” said the chief minister.

He expressed optimism of a positive result and urged upon the stakeholders, particularly the council employees to have patience and give time and support for the new EC to work out a solution.

“Various issues facing the GHADC were discussed and finance department officials also attended. Meeting was positive and a lot of reforms and issues of the council were taken up in the meeting, such as financial reforms, framing of financial rules, administrative reforms and the need for framing of service rules were discussed,” added Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.

He said that e-governance particularly computerization to ensure transparency in the financial system was discussed at length during the meeting.

He expressed confidence that when the proposals are taken up it would pave the way for clearing of the pending salaries and lauded the efforts of the new CEM to take into confidence all stakeholders in pushing for an early solution to the problems plaguing the GHADC.
