Shillong, Feb 14: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday inaugurated the Iew Dorbar Shnong Malki, at Kharmalki, Shillong, in the presence of MLA of 16-East Shillong, Dr M Ampareen Lyngdoh, and MDC, Fantin J Lakadong.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that it is a memorable and meaningful project in which people’s lives and livelihoods can be changed. He added that the programme is the celebration of the lives and livelihoods of the 25 families who are the direct beneficiaries of the project.Stating that the project not only benefits the beneficiaries but it also benefits the aesthetics of the locality in which drains have been covered, utilising the land and space in an appropriate manner and protecting the stream by ensuring that people cannot dump garbage in it. He also reiterated that the Government is committed to further contribute to other projects in the locality and the city as a whole, to further increase the livelihood of the people.He further encouraged the Malki Dorbar and the people to come together and work together in order to take the locality, the city and the state forward. Shillong being a very historic location, he urged the people to come together in order to ensure that Shillong can go back to its historic beauty which the city have always had. He also added that the Government have started a unique project of beautification where financial support is being given to the localities for cleaning projects, beautification projects and painting projects of their own and it is being done by the people of their own locality. During the programme, keys were also handed to the 25 beneficiaries of the market by the Chief Minister, MLA, MDC and members of the Malki Dorbar.
