Conrad inaugurates Jorabat Combined Water Supply Scheme

Nongpoh, Nov 12: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday inaugurated the Jorabat Combined Water Supply Scheme at Mawsmai Village under the Byrnihat Circle of Umling Community & Rural Development Block of Ri Bhoi District.

Jorabat Combined Water Supply Scheme (JCWSS) was sanctioned under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), and the project cost is Rs. 13,12,76,700.


Provisions under the scheme

– This scheme is a multi-village Water Supply Scheme covering four main villages: (i) Jorabat village (ii) Mawsmai village (iii) Ampher village (iv) Amphrangiri village; and five habitations: (a) Mawsmai GS Road (b) Nongthymmai (c) Nurimon (d) CTI Colony (e) G.S Road Colony.

– Jorabat Combined Water Supply scheme aims to provide potable drinking water supply to all the residents of above mentioned villages up-to the household level through 285 Nos  of Functional Household Taps.

– The Scheme is a gravity feed scheme, where by water will be tapped from the source namely “Umphanga Stream” at a distance of 9.86 Km upto the Treatment Plant located at Jorabat and the raw water from the intake point will be conveyed through Ductile Iron pipe (DI pipe). The treated water will then be supplied to different villages which will be first stored in zonal reservoirs  and  supplied to the public upto the household level by means of distribution networks.

– The Scheme is designed to provide water supply at the rate of 55 litres per person per day.

– Under the Scheme there is also a provision to provide water supply to six numbers of schools viz. (i) Mawsmai RCLP School (ii) Suryodaya LP/UP School, Mawsmai (iii) Charity Educare UP School, nongthymmai (iv) St Jude’s UP School, Ampher (v) Umpher RCLP School and (vi) CTI LP/UP School, CTI Colony.

– The Scheme will help in improving the life of the people residing in all the four villages in many aspects.  By  providing sufficient quantity of safe drinking water it will  improve & promote best and safe sanitation practices in households and schools of the villages resulting in a higher standard of living and also saving time and energy especially to women and children, eradication of waterborne diseases and other water related ailments which ultimately leads to a healthier lifestyle with improved sanitation standards and a positive impact on the quality of life for the general public.
