Tura, July 25: Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, inaugurated a Multi-Facility Community Hall at Matchakolgre in Tura on Wednesday.
The cost for the construction of the community hall is Rs. 52 lakhs, of which Rs. 26 lakh has been sanctioned under the scheme of Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund (CMSDF) and another Rs. 26 lakh sanctioned under the Viability Gap Funding scheme of the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority (MBDA).
In his address, the Chief Minister urged the gathering and the area’s development committee to organize various social, educational and competitive programs at the venue and to reap full benefit of the infrastructure.
He also suggested the committee members that diverse training programs or skill development programs can be held at the venue in order to uplift the locality and their youths, for which the Meghalaya government is keen to provide financial benefits.
Sangma also talked about the various plans and projects initiated by his government for the development of Tura town. He also took the opportunity to shed light on the importance of garbage management, saying that it is the collective effort where the government along with the municipal board are actively working towards it and that the society also has to play their role in it.
The programme also had a musical performance by the students of St. Stephen Memorial Secondary School, Tura.
Others present on the occasion included Mahendraganj MLA, Sanjay Sangma; Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, Jagdish Chelani; CEO of Tura Municipal Board, Rikse R Marak; Superintendent of Police of West Garo Hills, Abraham T Sangma; and members of the Matchakolgre Development Committee.
