Shillong, May 20: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday held a meeting with members from the Khasi Authors’ Society (KAS) and A’chik Literature Society (ALS) at the Meghalaya State Secretariat.

The Chief Minister informed that the purpose of the meeting is to discuss the strategy to pursue with Government of India for the inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the 8th Schedule and to discuss the steps that can be taken by the State government to widely promote the languages in the State especially among the youth.
“While we discuss the way forward for the inclusion of the Khasi and Garo languages in the 8th Schedule, it is also important for us to promote the languages in the State not only through academics, seminars and symposiums but also through movies, music and other forms of Art and broaden the activities,” he said.
The meeting was also attended by Chief Secretary, R V Suchiang, Commissioner & Secretary, Arts & Culture and Secretary, Home (Political), C V Diengdoh.
