Shillong, April 26: Meghalaya Govt on Monday issued an advisory to all returnees to go for a minimum of 7 (seven) days of self-isolation.

“If the returnees develop any symptoms, they should continue to isolate for another 7 days,” Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma told media, after convening an emergent meeting this evening.

“Cases of Corona virus is at its peak in the State but the government will not impose any lockdown but restrictions will be in place across the State. The Deputy Commissioners have been directed to take decisions accordingly to impose restrictions,” Sangma added.

He also said that all entrants to the State will have to go for mandatory RT-PCR test at entry points.

“The numbers of cases are still high and we are seeing a trend, where the positive cases are increasing. The situation is serious and therefore different kind of containment strategies have been adopted. We are looking at situation where we want to avoid lockdown, but at the same time, we would adopt measures to contain the situation. We need to put more restrictions in at least Shillong city,” he added.

He also informed that 65 per cent of returnees are testing positive and the situation is very alarming. “In order to ensure that we are able to contain the spread of the virus, we are making it mandatory for the returnees to go for the RTPCR test,” he said.

“We are giving strong advisory to the returnees and their family members that they should isolate themselves for seven days.”

He also informed that with UNDP’s support six more oxygen manufacturing units will be set up in the State.

He also urged the public not to come out unless it is important.
