Shillong, Sept 17: Replying to the discussion on the Assam-Meghalaya boundary issue in the Assembly, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Friday came down heavily on the Opposition Congress for doing nothing to resolve the over 40 years old issue.
“For the last 47 years, for the sake of convenience, we would have meetings and maintain ‘status quo’ on the Assam-Meghalaya boundary issue,” he said while asked why the opposition, when they were in power for decades, could not sit down and sort out the areas of differences with Assam.
At the same time, he also asked the members of the Opposition if they even knew the names of all the 12 areas of differences, insisting that they would need to read the paper with the names because they don’t know the names but he knows them all.
“I would ask the members (opposition) if any of you can even get up and tell me all the 12 areas of differences without reading the paper. You won’t be able to tell because you don’t know. You’ll need the paper in front of you. But I know all the names of those areas,” he stressed.
He also stated that lot of members were intending to play politics with the short duration discussion on Assam – Meghalaya boundary issue and tried to put the blame on the present government that they were not doing anything.
