Shillong, Jan 17: As people of Khasi-Jaintia Hills region eagerly await the final settlement to the boundary dispute between Assam and Meghalaya, with the two state governments hoping to resolve atleast few of the 12 areas of dispute before Meghalaya’s 50th Statehood anniversary on January 21 this year, the opposition has asked the government to hold a Special Assembly Session to discussion the issue before the House before a final decision is taken by the government.
Reacting to this, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday said the government will examine the suggestion of convening a special session. He, however, mentioned that the government has already taken on board different political parties while attempts are being made to resolve this dispute.
At the same time, he also informed that he met with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at an unofficial meeting in Guwahati on Monday. He said that they are trying to come up with a solution before the state celebrates its golden jubilee on January 21.
