TURA, Dec 4: Jengjal will be upgraded to a Civil Sub-Division on Monday by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma who will also launch Garo Hills’, and probably Meghalaya’s first ever, Drone Hub centre from the Adventist Mission Hospital that will ferry medicines and bring back patient samples from far flung villages by air.
Jengjal, 30 kms from Tura, will be the 6th civil sub-division of Garo Hills and the 3rd created by the Conrad K Sangma government in just a span of one month, ahead of the elections in 2023.
CM Conrad Sangma has stated that creation of more blocks and sub-divisions are aimed at bringing government administration and facilities closer to the people.
Jengjal town, which currently forms part of Dadenggre constituency represented by the chief minister’s elder brother, James Pangsang K Sangma, is a crucial tri-junction that connects Assam, East and South Garo Hills with West Garo Hills district.
It also houses the first and only airport of Garo Hills at Baljek.
Besides creation of the civil sub-division, Jengjal has now become a centre for professional and quality medical care ever since the state government handed over its primary health centre to a team of CMC Vellore doctors under the Adventist Mission society who have been providing one of the best treatment for mothers and children with an array of hi-tech equipment and as many as three child specialists and a seasoned and experienced lady gynaecologist who has come all the way from Vellore to join the hospital after serving with the World Health Organization.
As the director of the Adventist Mission hospital, Dr Denyl Joshua, child specialist, put it, “The drone hub will reach far flung villages to deliver life saving medicines and transform medical care.”
