Conrad warns of action against govt employees involved in election campaigns

Shillong, June 15: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has warned government employees engaging in any election campaigns of action against them.

Recently, there have been words on the streets that government officials have been campaigning for the upcoming election 2023. Chief Minister has warned such government employees to not involve in any election campaigns or political parties without resigning or taking Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS).

Speaking to Hub news, Sangma said, “As a government employee, there are very clear rules that don’t allow you to (involve in political campaign) or infact be in any political side.” Government officials need to abstain from taking part in any election campaign or canvassing for any particular party or candidate.

He further clarified that any individual is allowed to apply as a candidate or take part in any campaigns but he/she should resign from their current position or take the VRS to be able to take part in any election related works.

He also reminded that employees need to follow the Service Rules strictly and if any government official is found guilty, necessary actions will be taken against such officials.
