Tura, May 16 : In view of the surge in Covid-19 cases, West Garo Hills District Magistrate, Ram Singh, had issued an order under Section 144 of the CrPC on 16 May, thereby enforcing containment measures with restricted and permitted activities within the district with effect from 5 a.m of 17 May till 5 a.m of 24 May.
The permitted activities according to the order included opening of essential commodities shops everyday from 8 a.m to 1 p.m subject to regulation on days and timing to be decided by the CEO of Tura Municipal Board, opening of shops dealing in hardware, electrical, plumbing and sanitary ware, computer service centers, mobile repairing and automobiles repairing shops and other non-essential shops on Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m to 1 p.m, opening of hotels and eateries on take away basis, etc. In Tura Bazar, all essential supplies shops will open on odd/even number basis from 8 a.m to 1 p.m. and maintenance of social distancing will be monitored by the CEO of the Tura Municipal Board and the designated Executive Magistrate.
All the markets in bordering Assam from Singimari to Tikrikilla will open everyday from 8 a.m to 12 p.m and the non-essential shops in those areas will open on Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a,m to 12 p.m.
The construction activities including road construction, etc. are to be strictly adhered to CVovid protocols, banks and banking services, post and telegraph and telecom services will function with limited staff and the exempted central and state Govt. offices will function from 10 a.m to 1 p.m.
The restricted activities in the district included closure of schools and educational institutions, ban on political, public, social and religious gatherings including meetings, training, etc, closure of weekly markets, tourist spots, places of religious worships and border trades, etc.
