Tura, 18 Feb: Union Home Minister and BJP’s number 2 man in the country, Amit Shah has told a mammoth gathering of BJP supporters in Dalu border town of West Garo Hills on Friday that if voted to power his party would ensure a thorough probe into corruption charges against the Conrad K Sangma led MDA government and this would be conducted by a retired Supreme court Judge.

While he mentioned an impending investigation and termed the MDA government as corrupt, Amit Shah was silent on the alliance front of the MDA in which even his own party was a member.

A L Hek was the health minister for more than three years and was replaced later by another BJP MLA Sanbor Shullai.

Repeating his words in Tura where he branded Meghalaya as being among the top most corrupt states in the country, he promised a government that would institute a judicial probe into all allegations of corruption that would be headed by a retired Supreme Court judge.

Terming the MDA government as nothing short of a “damaged Transformer” that needed to be replaced with a new one, Shah called on the people to vote in the BJP to ensure progress.

“A BJP government will ensure schemes reach the people and the marginalised sections of society are able to avail the free rations, houses for the poor, healthcare benefits, gas connections and even toilets.

Backing the BJP candidate for Dalu Akki Sangma the Union Health Minister said that unlike the previous elections of 2018 where their candidates lost by a couple of hundred votes, the scenario had changed for the better as he expected major gains across the Garo Hills and the state as well.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma who accompanied Amit Shah to the rally at Dalu assured the crowds that a similar ‘Orunodoi’ scheme as that in Assam would be implemented in Meghalaya in which women would be financially empowered through a direct benefit transfer process.

In Assam, under the Orunodoi scheme women are to receive Rs 1000/- on the first day of each month and the scheme was launched in October 2020.

The MDA government has also launched similar schemes under its Focus and Focus Plus financial aid programmes, while the opposition Trinamool Congress has also promised financial aid to women under its Women Empowerment or WE card.
