Tura, Aug 18: District Sessions Court in Baghmara has rejected the bail application of a Tura doctor who is in custody for conducting an illegal abortion in Williamnagar on a pregnant minor girl who was raped by her brother-in-law.

The arrested doctor Dolon R. Marak of Reserve Gittim Tura was taken into custody by police for conducting the illegal termination of pregnancy on an underage girl from South Garo Hills who was raped.

This is the second rejection of the doctor’s bail by the Court in less than 10 days.

He has since been put in Baghmara Hospital for treatment on the medical advice given by a doctor that he is suffering from alcohol dependency problems.

It may be mentioned that the rape victim from South Garo Hills had to be admitted to Baghmara Hospital after suffering from immense bleeding caused by the illegal abortion.

Based on the victim’s accounts, South Garo Hills police dispatched a team to Williamnagar and nabbed the doctor who despite having been transferred to Tura was still undertaking private practice over there.

The brother-in-law of the young girl who raped and impregnated her has also been arrested.

Superintendent of Williamnagar Civil Hospital, Dr. R. Debnath, issued a statement mentioning that Dr. Dolan Marak had been transferred through promotion to the Maternity and Child Hospital (MCH) in Tura, West Garo Hills (WGH) in the month of June.

“He has been released in June to enable him to join in his new place of service,” the statement mentioned.
