Dalai Lama’s visit to Sikkim postponed due to flash floods

Gangtok, Oct 11: The visit of Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama has been postponed to next month following Sikkim witnessing devastating flash floods last week.

Lama was scheduled to visit Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh.

The death toll in the Sikkim flash floods of October 4, 2023 has gone up to 77. While Sikkim accounts for 37 deaths, 40 other bodies were found in the riverbed of a raging Teesta River in the neighbouring Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal.

The number of missing persons is around 79 persons. Around 28 persons have been reported injured till date.
