DC Swapnil Tembe suggests measures towards a ‘Garbage Free’ Tura

Tura, June 7: West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Swapnil Tembe has informed that with regard to the issue of garbage disposal in urban area, the office of the Deputy Commissioner is preparing an action plan and to implement this plan successfully and make the district Garbage Free, coordination and support from all residents of West Garo Hills district is necessary.

Further, the Deputy Commissioner has requested all the households to segregate waste at household level and kitchen waste (Wet waste) to make compost which will ensure that the locality dustbins are free from foul smell.

The Deputy Commissioner is also encouraging all households to implement the three R’s (Reduce, Re-use and Re-cycle) principle with regard to household items which will significantly reduce garbage loads on Tura Municipal Board.

Moreover, he has suggested everyone to carry cloth bags or any other reusable bag while going to market so that the shopkeepers do not have to use polythene or single use plastic bags.

He is also encouraging all households to use locally available products which come in eco-friendly packaging and will also promote local entrepreneurs. It was also informed in the notice that door to door collection of garbage through the Municipal staff will be initiated soon for which nominal monthly user charges will be charged.
