Shillong, Nov 15: After the state government invited deficit school teachers for a discussion on their pending issues and problems on November 15, The teachers under the Khasi Jaiñtia Deficit School Teachers Association (KJDSTA) and Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers and Employees Association (GHDSTEA) have welcomed the invitation by officials of the education department.
The association on Monday discussed their pending issues and problems with Meghalaya Chief Secretary RV Suchiang and Principal Secretary DP Wahlang and officials of the education department.
Speaking to the press after the meeting KJDSTA president, Babu Kular Khongjirem said, “The deficit teachers of both KJDSTA and GHDSTEA discussed to extend the retired benefit schemes, demanded the enhancement of the death cum-retirement gratuity from Rs 3.5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh which is at par with the recommendation of the 5th pay Commission, following with the release of the pending arrears of the revised pay scale, medical reimbursement and to implement the recommendation of the commission”.
He added further saying, the response from the government is positive since our demands are genuine” added Khongjirem.
It may be mentioned that in March this year, the deficit school teachers took a three-day mass casual leave in protest against the government non-acceptance of their demands that left many schools without any teachers.
