Shillong, Jan 25: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has lamented that fact that although the government has constituted multiple inquiry committees to probe alleged irregularities in various departments, none of the committees have submitted their report.

The government has constituted inquiry committees to probe alleged irregularities in the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Ltd (MeECL), rice scam and the killing of the former HNLC leader Cheristerfield Thangkhiew.

UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh on Tuesday said, ā€œThe government has time and again constituted these inquiries whenever there are allegations but sad to sayā€¦ it takes so long for the reports to come out which is a cause of concern because the people have the right to know what is going on.ā€

He also alleged that the delay in submission of the inquiry report is a tactic by the government so that people forget about these issues.

Agreeing with the AITC leader Dr. Mukul Sangma who alleged that the delaying tactic was to ensure people forget about these allegations, Mawthoh said, ā€œWhat Dr Mukul Sangma said also he is right in one way, as if there is a delay means there will be no reportsā€¦ā€

He said due to such delay, people are disgruntled. ā€œThe different organizations which have been demanding for these reports of the different inquiry committees are also disappointed and disgruntled,ā€ Mawthoh said while urging the state government to facilitate the early submission of these inquiry reports so that the truth will come out in the open.
