Guwahati, Jan 13: Preparations are high in Assam for the Uruka or the Bhogali Bihu grand feast, to be held on Thursday night where friends and family get together and eat together. Although the government has allowed people to celebrate Bihu, they have been asked to refrain from organising large gatherings.
So, for many this time, Uruka will be one within the house, among family members.
For people in Guwahati, for decades it has been a ritual of sorts to buy fish from the Uzan Bazar Bihu fish market right on the bank of the Brahmaputra. This time the crowd has been thin and the market has been spread out so that social distancing can be maintained.
People say, despite Covid spike, they don’t want to miss out on Bihu feast but this time it will be only restricted to family members.
