Drug seized in Garo Hills

Tura, March 1: Two drug smugglers have on Monday been arrested by South Garo Hills police with a consignment of the drugs yaba tablets and phensedyl cough syrup that was going to be sold to addicts across the border in Bangladesh.

South Garo Hills police official note mentioned that its anti narcotic team ANTF acted on a tip off about possible attempt of drug smuggling that would be made by some smugglers to handover a consignment of narcotics to a man at Malikona, Baghmara area, which would in turn be smuggled to Bangladesh for sale to addicts.

The first to be arrested was a suspect identified as Merazul Hoque, who after interrogation led police to house of Babu Das where they seized consignment of 98 bottles of banned Phensedyl cough syrup kept hidden inside a bagpack.

During interrogation by women police personnel, the wife of Babu Das, Usha Das showed police the backside of the house where ashe had thrown another drug consignment. On search the police retrieved as many as 1125 tablets of the drug Yaba methamphetamine, a highly dangerous and toxic drug.
