East Garo Hills shocker: Villagers rescue girl, injured and bound in tape, from a car; accused escapes

Tura, June 28: In a shocking incident that has come to light from East Garo Hills district, villagers rescued a young girl, who had been seriously assaulted and tightly bound, from the clutches of an unidentified man from an isolated stretch of road passing through the village.

The incident was reported on Tuesday evening from the Rangmalgre village under Chiading police station, through which one of the state highways passes, where the incident was reported. The Chiading road from Jengjal connects to Williamnagar and onwards to Nongstoin and Shillong.

Villagers informed that around 6:30 PM on Tuesday evening, screams of a girl attracted their attention. Acting promptly, they intercepted a vehicle that was passing through their village. To their horror, they discovered a young girl inside, her mouth and neck tightly wrapped with cellotape, tears streaming down her face. She also bore visible injuries on her face.

The man behind the wheel, upon interrogation, claimed that the girl had allegedly betrayed him after a four-year-long relationship. Fuelled by anger and frustration, he resorted to violence and bound the girl. However, before the villagers could apprehend him, he managed to escape in his vehicle.

The East Garo Hills police have launched a search operation to locate the accused and the vehicle involved in the incident. They have also not ruled out attempted murder.
