Shillong, Sept 9: The East Jaintia National Council (EJNC) on Thursday demanded setting up of two residential school and a teachers training centre in East Jaintia Hills District.

Sambormi Lyngdoh, President of the EJNC, said there has been a kind of a partiality to the East Jaintia Hills District because the demand that was put forward by them has been left unattended since 2020 and a memorandum has been put forward by the EJHC since 2020 regarding this issue.

The EJNC also mentioned that recently the government has given more than Rs. 50 crores to reconstruct the road from Rajabala to Garobadha through the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS) however it has never responded to the memorandum sent by the association in the year 2021 to build proper roadways in East Jaintia Hills District that is from Smiling to Nongkhlieh which creates havoc during rainy seasons.

He further stated that East Jaintia Hills is one of the districts that brings income to the state government however they are being sidelined. “We urge to the government and the Chief Minister of the State, Conrad Sangma to also look at our District too,” urged the organization.
