Shillong, Dec 29: The state government has directed both the Deputy Commissioners (DC) of East Khasi Hills district and Ri Bhoi district to start the process of land acquisition for construction of the Shillong-Western Bypass.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed that the finalization of the alignment for the project has been completed.
“We have now entrusted the deputy commissioners of East Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi to submit details of assessment for starting the land acquisition process,” Tynsong said.
“In fact section 11 has been notified. So let both the deputy commissioners work out on the ground assessment of whatever the land and submit it to the government,” he added.
The alignment for the project was finalized by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL).
The Shillong-Western Bypass would start from Umiam via Mawmih up to Baniun in Seventh Mile at Upper Shillong.
The Deputy Chief Minister asserted that the construction of the Shillong-Western Bypass would to a great extent help lessen the burden on the Umiam bridge and ease traffice congestion in Shillong city.
