Jowai, Nov 26: The Environment Coordination Committee (ECC) Elaka Sutnga along with the Police from East Jaiñtia Hills (EJH) District on Thursday evening shut down a Coke Factory which was allegedly operating illegally.
The Office Bearers of the ECC Sutnga informed that the factory is under the name of M/S. R.S. RETRO and was operating without the Consent To Establish (CTE) and Consent To Operate (CTO) from the government.
After receiving complaints about the illegal activities, the ECC Sutnga informed the Police and on the evening of November 25 conducted a surprise inspection, whereby they found the labourers burning coal for the production of Coke.
The ECC Sutnga informed that such illegal operation is further polluting the air quality and the smell is unbearable. The members also urged upon the Government to take strict actions against such erring factories so that such illegal activities are stopped.
