Ethnic violence in Manipur reaches Meghalaya: Meitei and Kukis groups clash in Shillong, 16 apprehended

Shillong, May 4: The ethnic violence between the Meitei community and the tribals, especially the Kukis, ravaging through Manipur has reached all the way to Shillong.

The spill over of the violence in Manipur was reported on Thursday from the Nongrim Hills locality in Shillong City as a fight broke out between the two community.

Police said they received information at around about 05:30 pm at Laitumkhrah police station about a group fight at Nongrim Hills near Mizo Morden School. Police rushed to the area and found two persons of one community manhandled by another community.

To prevent the situation from getting aggravated, East Khasi Hills Police have apprehended and bound down 16 persons under Section 107 CrPC of both the communities for formenting trouble.

Police has further warned of taking stringent measures against those wanting to vitiate the peace in the city.
