Tura, July 8: The Federation of A•chik Freedom (FAF) and A•chik Youth Welfare Organization (AYWO) in Tura have lodged a complaint with the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills against a contractor named M/S Bimal Kumar Agarwala, citing poor construction of roads at Rongkon Songgital, Asibra Road.

According to the complaint, the work executed by the contractor has failed to meet the expectations of the local residents and villagers in the affected areas. Concerned about the substandard quality of work, the Development Committee of Ringgi Songgital, Rongkon Songgital, and Asibra approached the pressure groups, who subsequently filed a Right to Information (RTI) request to obtain reports from the relevant department.

To investigate the matter further, the pressure groups conducted a spot enquiry into the road construction, during which they found significant discrepancies between the actual construction work and the Detailed Project Report (DPR) prepared by the department. They alleged that the contractor had neglected to construct the required retaining walls along the road, as specified in the DPR.

The pressure groups have urged the Deputy Commissioner to intervene promptly and address the public’s concerns regarding the poor quality of road construction. Additionally, they have demanded that the authorities take strict action against both the contractor and the work supervisor for their irresponsible conduct, which has inconvenienced the general public.

In their complaint, the two organizations have also sought blacklist the contractor’s firm from future construction projects in the region. The move is intended to ensure that such substandard construction practices are not repeated and to safeguard the interests of the local community.
