Tura, Apr 30: Fear surrounds motorists commuting the roads of Tura after two major accidents took place in last one week that saw young bikers run over by speeding dumper trucks.
The widespread sharing of unverified stories on social media have added to the fear even though district authorities led by deputy commissioner Jagdish Chelani have assured citizens of a check on movement of heavy loaded vehicles with a time restricted entry into town.
After two back to back accidents involving dumper trucks, a teenage student being run over in Balonggre leading to amputation of her leg, a motorcycle rider dragged with his two wheeler under the truck on Sunday, widespread rumors are adding to the fear.
Early this morning, a scooterist, Chekam A Sangma (29), lost control of his two wheeler near SMELC office in Dakopgre leading to some facial injuries.
The incident occured around 3 AM while he was returning home from a relative house in Daldagre where a funeral had taken place.
The victim claims to have panicked on seeing an approaching truck and lost control, although police have ruled out any involvement of a dumper truck in the mishap.
He even managed to ride back home in his two wheeler before heading to a hospital to seek first aid, a couple of hours later.
That has not stopped rumor mongering from spreading misinformation blaming the incident on trucks.
With pictures of an injured Chekam Sangma going viral on social media accusing truck drivers of speeding, Tura police are calling upon the public not to rely on unverified stories flooding social media platforms as it is leading to a sense of insecurity among the people.
