Shillong, Feb 20: The Federation of Khasi States (FKS) has sought appointment with Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma for discussion on issues related to the Annexed Agreement of the Instrument of Accession signed on August 17, 1948.
The appointment is to follow up on the chief minister’s positive statement on October 11, 2021 expressing his willingness to discuss issues arising out of the Annexed Agreement of the Instrument of Accession, if such issues are discussed within the parameters of the Constitution of India, FKS adviser & spokesperson John F Kharshiing said in a statement on Sunday.
He said the Federation of Khasi States has been reiterating since many years through its memos to the Centre and the State that the constitutional description of the Khasi States within Assam in the First Schedule of the Constitution of India is a serious anomaly which is to be righted.
“The Federation of Khasi States has sought appointment with the Chief Minister, Meghalaya to discuss this anomaly of describing the Khasi States within the First Schedule which has an important relevance to the present ongoing discussions on boundary settlement between Meghalaya and Assam,” Kharshiing said.
