Tura, Oct 2: As Mahalaya heralds the arrival of Goddess Durga on Earth, it also marks the onset of the grand Durga Puja celebrations in the country.

Festivities commence in Tura with Mahalaya procession

The festive fervor also took center stage in Tura as the Thakurbari, Fancy Valley, and other Puja Committees launched the celebrations with the traditional ‘Prabhat Pheri’ processions on Wednesday morning.

The procession, starting from Tura Parade Ground at 7 AM, marched through Hawakhana, Babupara and Tura Bazaar and saw participation of numerous devotees and religious locals.

Prabhat Pheri is a tradition that means “early morning rounds”. It involves getting up early and taking rounds of a village or city while singing, chanting prayers, and playing instruments. The tradition is believed to help invoke positive spirits and bring in the day with good vibrations.
