Must read

Guwahati, Oct 22: After successful completion of Railway Electrification works up to Kamakhya station and authorization granted by CRS/N. F. Circle, a loaded train pulled by electric locomotive arrived at the Kamakhya Railway Station in Guwahati on October 21, 2021. It was the first electric run of a loaded train in Assam.

This great feat will now connect all major cities of the country with Guwahati on seamless Electric Traction. This is yet another effort by NFR for capital connectivity by Green Transportation, Ministry of Railways said in a statement.

“At this point, it is worthwhile to note the numerous inherent benefits of electric traction i.e. higher speed potential enabling faster trains, saving of time and energy, increase energy efficiency with a higher power to weight ratio, regenerative breaking, higher hauling capacity with high horsepower locomotives, improve reliability and line capacity, pollution-free mode of transportation, cost-effective due to lesser maintenance and operating cost etc,” the statement added.

The Central Organization for Railway Electrification and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited had jointly undertaken the electrification work completing a total of 780 Route KM/ 1701 Track KM.

Electric traction will be beneficial in several factors such as faster trains with higher speed capability that save time and energy, increased energy efficiency with higher power-to-weight ratio, cost-effectiveness and more.
