Shillong, Oct 21: The Federation of Khasi Jaiñtia and Garo People (FKJGP), Upper Shillong Circle, along with the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Upper Shillong Unit, have expressed their opposition to government’s decision of asking local hawkers, who have set up temporary stalls at 7th Mile, to produce No Objection Certificate (NOC).
Leaders of the FKJGP, the KSU Upper Shillong Circle along with the village heads, after inspecting the area where the local shopkeepers have set up their stalls, said they oppose the government decision.
The Eastern Air Command (EAC) Headquarters, at 7th Mile, Upper Shillong, recently filed a complaint with the Office of the Block Development Officer of Mylliem C&RD Block against the street hawkers who have set up their shops adjacent to the walls of the HQ.
Kitboklang Nongphlang, vice president of FKJGP, Central body, said, “If the PWD or the Block attempts to shift or remove the hawkers from here, with one understanding we stand against that plan. Our brothers and sisters have been setting up shops here for years together; they have earned their livelihood from here as well.”
