Shillong, Oct 28: Spearheading the public rally, Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) on Friday was joined by several other NGOs like KSU, RBYF, HNYF marched from Motphran towards Madan Iewrynghep (Firebrigade Ground), Shillong.
The NGOs are protesting over the lack of unemployment and the increasing number of unemployed youths in the state.
Loud slogans echoed across the streets and few of the protestors went on a rampage to attack passersby and a non tribal tempo driver. The leaders of the FKJGP tried to calm the members to avoid beating people passing by and to solely focus on the rally. Reportedly, all shutters and shops were shutdown as soon as the rally started from Motphran, prompting even the traffic to come at a standstill.
At the rally, one police vehicle was also vandalised along with few motorbikes. As per Hub news ground report close to 10 men were attacked. However, the leaders of organisation tried to appeal to the crowd to stay calm.
As peaceful protest turns violent, the members of the FKJGP assaulted a journalist.
President of the FKJGP Dundee Khongsit has publicly apologise.
