Tura, Dec 22: West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh has directed the district food safety inspector to conduct a thorough inspection of fast food joints in and around Tura after five cases of food poisoning occured in less than four days, this week.
“The food safety officer will be verifying and enquiring the cases. If need be we will order a magisterial enquiry as well,” imformed DC Ram Singh.
The warning comes after three girls got food poisoning in Tura bazar and Hawakhana after eating some pakoras and lassi on Sunday.
One girl was taken to Tura civil hospital with severe dysentery and two others remain under medical care for similar symptoms.
Another two cases of toxic food consumption has been reported from Ringrey area also and the DC has asked the food inspectors to verify and inspect the sale of food items.
With the festive season in full swing, hundreds of young girls and boys are flocking to street food stalls every evening while participating in community dances and get together events across Tura town.
While some stalls are serving hot and hygienic food items, some are putting up for sale items that are highly questionable and not well cleaned.
