Tura, May 16: In order to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of tobacco consumption, the Garo Union Higher Secondary School (GUHSS) organized an anti-tobacco rally on Tuesday, which was participated by students from classes 7 to 10.

The rally commenced from Matchalkolgre, passing through Araimile, New Tura, and Nazing Bazar, before culminating at the GUHSS campus.

Lower-class students were excluded from the event due to unfavourable traffic and weather conditions.

As part of their effort, the students carried banners and placards highlighting the harmful nature of tobacco products, serving as a visual reminder to the people on the various health hazards associated with tobacco use. Alongside the rally, the school also conducted a signature campaign, inviting students and members of the public to show their support for the cause.

Talking to Hub News, Mr. Stanley of Garo Union Higher Secondary School spoke about the significance of the initiative. He said, “This initiative was taken by the school to educate our students and the general public about the severe health risks associated with tobacco products.”
