Tura, Aug 10: A delegation led by GHADC CEM Benedic R. Marak is in Delhi to meet Union Ministers and submit memorandums for funds for construction of infrastructure of the council including tourism and judiciary.
CEM Marak is accompanied by BJP MDC Promod Koch, Executive Member in-charge Agricuture, adviser Akki Sangma on Monday to Delhi.
They met three central ministers, namely, Law and Justice minister Kiren Rijiju, Union Tourism Minister G. Kishan Reddy and Minister of State for labour and petroleum Rameswar Teli.
In their discussion with Kiren Rijiju, CEM Benedic raised the issue of funds crunch and assistance in funding for the construction of the district council court and village courts.
In their meeting with G Kishan Reddy, Benedic discussed the funding required for construction of the council administrative building along with the staff quarters.
The other issues raised were requirements like setting up of solid waste management in weekly markets, reopening of the decades old defunct transport department of the council, creation of an import and export centre on the border with Bangladesh, rain water harvesting, boosting tourism in Garo Hills through eco-tourism, opening of adventure clubs and better approach roads to tourism sites.
In a separate meeting with Minister of State for labour and employment, petroleum and natural gas, Rameswar Teli, the CEM discussed the difficulties in procuring gas and also suggested setting up of an ESR hospital in Garo Hills.
