New GHADC MDCs to be sworn in on Monday

TURA, Apr 18: The process of a new administration in the GHADC has begin with all 29 MDCs of the new house set to be sworn in under a special session at the council headquarters in Tura at 11 AM on Monday.

West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh will administer the oath of office of the new members at the assembly hall of the council.

The special session has been summoned by Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik through a notification issued from his office and the same has been intimated to the new members by the GHADC secretary Rikse R Marak.

The governor’s notification has also called for the election to the post of the Chairman slated for April 21.

The NPP has decided to field First time MDC from Babelapara, Rakesh A Sangma for the position of GHADC  Chairman.

Rakesh Sangma became a giant killer in this election by defeating sitting MLA and state NCP chief Saleng A Sangma in the MDC polls with a substantial margin.

The Garo Hills Democratic Coalition (GHDC) formed by the elected 11 NPP MDCs, one GNC MDC and three independents has selected Raksamgre MLA and MDC Benedic R Marak for the top position of Chief Executive Member and first time Garo National Council MDC from Rongrikimgre and Garoland State Movement Committee chief Nikman Ch Marak for the post of Deputy CEM.

The incumbent CEM Benedic R Marak was one among four sitting MDCs to retain his seat in this election where a strong anti incumbency wave by the voters removed from power 26 sitting members, in a historic record.

The only other MDCs to survive the public anger were Congress MDC Stevie Marak in Boldamgre, Congress MDC from Dengnakpara and Zenith Sangma’s wife Sadhiarani Sangma, NPP MDC Dhormonath Sangma from Naguapara and Benedic Marak of Raksamgre.
